Topic: Do you think people behave differently when they are traveling, compared to one when they are at home
Nowadays,
because of the development of transportation and communication, traveling has never
been easier. But there are a lot of newspapers that complain the behavior of
tourist such as they get drunk on the street and cause trouble to the pedestrians.
The morning after they were escorted to the police station, they become
respectable men. I believe the reason lies in the difference in behavior when
they traveling, compared to one when they are at home.
First
of all, it is because people think that they will not have many chances in
their life to visit that country again so it is alright not to restrict
themselves. When they live at home, they may have the nosy neighbors who always
gossip about everything they do or a strict boss who always waits for them to
make mistake. They cannot relax. This time, they know that the natives will know
and remember them, they act freely. They can just laugh out loud or scream
excitedly when they see an elephant or they can confidently walk in a branded
fashion shop and try every piece of clothes they want without any fear.
Secondly,
every country has different culture and pattern of behavior. For example, Thais
bow their head and put their hand together when they greet people while the Westerners
shake hand or simply wave their hand. In order to minimize the possibility of
misunderstanding, many choose to copy the native’s habitat. Additionally, they
are affected by the environment of that country they are visiting. For instance,
if they travel to United States, the tourists often go frenzy about shopping.
Even when they don’t dare to buy anything at home, they spend a huge amount of
money in clothes or technology as they don’t want to feel inferior.
Last
but not least, tourists believe they won’t be accused for violating other
countries’ rule and law. The most popular example is crossing the street. In
Singapore, crossing the street half way is forbidden and will be fined badly
but because the distance to white crossing line is usually very large, lazy tourists
often just do it as they can use the excuse of negligence to escape the police.
Travelling
is a chance of changing of environment in a long time. Thus, it is easy to
understand why people behave differently compared to where they are at home.
However, it may lead to serious consequences afterwards such as overspending or
injury and I believe they will really regret it later. It is alright to free
yourself of all the daily responsibility but people should limit their actions
in order not to hurt themselves or hurt their home country’s reputation.
